With hot and dry weather all through the year, Cairo and Egypt as a whole really only offers two seasons. Between November and April, the mild winter is one of the most pleasant times of the year to visit Cairo, while the summer climate from May to October and noticeably warmer.

Each year in March and April, you can expect gusty periods, when the hot 'khamsin' wind blows across from the western desert and can at times fill the air with sand and dust.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

In general, December to February tend to be the most popular months to visit Cairo, when the climate is at its most enjoyable. However, whilst the days can bring hours of endless sunny weather, the night-time temperatures can plummet, often dropping as low at 8°C / 46°F, so be sure to bring a warm jacket if venturing outside after dark. Sunshine during the winter period is by no means guaranteed in Cairo, and skies can be rather overcast on occasion, being following by chilly nights.

Climate wise, June to August can be quite unbearable in Cairo, as temperatures soar to 35°C / 95°F or more, even reaching 40° / 104°F from time to time. Described as both arid and temperate, Cairo's climate is especially appealing during the early spring period, from March to May, which is a good time to visit. Early autumn is equally agreeable and September, October and November are all sensible periods to plan a holiday here.

Precipitation levels around Cairo are slight and almost non-existent, with less than 22 mm / 1 inch each year, although rather surprisingly the summer climate can be humid. Outside of this period, humidity levels are much lower.
